It’s not a surprise. Utilities in California have increased rates between 5-8% per year for decades. But things have rocketed in recent years, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics and project modeling firms like Energy Toolbase showing commercial rates have increased on average between 39% and 118% from 2018 to 2023.
Customers of Investor-Owned Utilities Southern California Edison (SCE), Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), as well as those of municipal utilities such as Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP), are bracing for the highest summer bills yet.
