Celebrating the Inflation Reduction Act: Our Statement
Jonathan Caizley, Senior Partner at Sunistics:
“The passing of the Inflation Reduction Act is a timely yet overdue statement of serious intent to address some of the issues relating to the transition to clean energy, climate adaptation, and the potentially perilous condition of our planet for current and future generations.
“The expectation that the Act will help to cut greenhouse gas emissions to about 40% below 2005 levels by 2030 feels realistic and we are truly energized to continue playing our part as resilience and renewables specialist on the West Coast, making the possibility of sustainability a realistic, cost-effective option and accelerating our work to protect the environment for our communities.
“As the bill stands now for anticipated approval today, a 10-year extension of the solar Investment Tax Credit at 30% for both residential and commercial/utility-scale projects provides welcome certainty for organizations exploring solar and storage, but the fact that nonprofits will potentially be able to receive their 30% in direct pay is monumental for our clientele, our industry, and our country. This would be the first time nonprofits will be able to fully access the 30% discount available to other commercial entities and it’s something to celebrate.
“At a time when the cost of electricity in California is scaling ever more worrying heights, we are overdue a shot in the arm for our business and organizational leaders who are the driving force behind the adoption of clean energy, resilience and climate adaptation measures.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to everyone responsible for getting this bill over the line. We have faith it will also include direct pay for nonprofits and public entities. Now it’s time for us to redouble our efforts in the name of better energy and a better world for all.”
